Barron’s Advisor recently published an article by Steve Garmhausen which quarried the opinions of several advisors from across the country on what New Year’s resolutions they would create for their clients. So I put the question to our own HoyleCohen advisory and planning teams.

Here are their thoughts:

  • Enjoy your wealth during your lifetime. You can’t take it with you!
  • Include philanthropy in your estate plan.
  • Don’t wait for your grandkids to call you. They’re too busy. Call them. Text them. Send them a postcard!

  • Focus on YOU (Health & Wellness)
  • Practice Gratitude

Enjoy life!  Take the trip, buy the toy, make the gift, etc.  Many clients stress so much over money that they hold back from things they truly enjoy like travel, experiences, material things, or benefiting others.  Money is a means to an end, and with no guarantees in life, I love to see clients spending it on things they enjoy while they are still able.  If you are worried about whether you can afford it, call us!

  • Invest in your peace of mind: Diversify your investments like you’ve diversified your life experiences, ensuring a balanced and fulfilling retirement.
  • Pass on your wisdom: Update your estate plan so your legacy reflects the values and lessons you’ve learned. Gather with family and share your wisdom.
  • Leave a legacy, not a tax bill: Explore ways to reduce the tax burden on your loved ones by making smart financial choices
  • Strengthen relationships: Dedicate time to nurturing relationships with family and friends to create lasting memories.

Please provide your advisor with your tax return once completed. This is instrumental in helping us more accurately perform tax planning analysis (which can help to save you money and keep your overall tax exposure low). It also equips us to have more valuable and actionable conversations with you focused on demystifying the world of income taxes and how they fit into your overall financial picture. With your tax return, we can determine if estimated tax payments are needed, if Roth IRA contributions / conversions are appropriate, what the best investment vehicles are for you, the most efficient portfolio withdrawal strategies, and more.
