In this recent article, Good News Network reviews a study recently published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, that measured the ability to perform both basic and instrumental activities of daily living in people over 65 who had low, medium, and high physical function levels.

The study looked at walking speed, leg strength and balance to measure physical performance and concluded that those with low physical function scores were 47 percent more likely to experience at least one cardiovascular disease event.

It was also noted that the assessment of physical function may also inform the risk of falls and disabilities in older adults which can significantly impact their standard of living.
