1/14/21 Virtual Discussion: Upcoming changes to CA tax & property transfer laws resulting from Proposition 19

On January 14th, we hosted a virtual event featuring Estate Planning Attorney, Daniel Wilson from Robinson & Wilson, and HoyleCohen Legacy Coach, Chuck Ebersole.  We discussed Proposition 19, and related changes to California Property Taxes and the “Parent-Child Exclusion” that are taking effect in February, 2021.  While many aspects of this law are still to be determined, we discussed pros & cons of various strategies that may help clients eliminate or minimize the effects of these changes on their generational asset transfer goals.

This presentation was intended to provide an overview of recent legislation and consider reasons why clients might consider changing their plans.  The presentation was not meant to provide specific advice about any particular scenario.  If you believe that your plan might be impacted by this recent legislation, we encourage you to reach out to your HoyleCohen advisory team and/or your estate planning attorney so that they can advise on your specific situation.
