What can I do?

Businesses, individuals, and non-profit organizations are coming together in a myriad of ways to help each other and the most vulnerable.

Many of us feel helpless right now, especially feeling isolated and knowing there are many less fortunate out there who need help. Below are a few ways communities are connecting with each other and other organizations in the spirit of support. If you know of others not listed here please feel free to share!

IN SAN DIEGO:

StayHomeSD – This is an amazing San Diego based grocery assistance program for the elderly. Started by James Hays, this grassroots organization has provided over 4,300 grocery deliveries in the past 7+ days. The San Diego Foundation – COVID-19 Community Response Fund, is a coalition of philanthropy, government and business partners that have joined together to help rapidly deploy flexible resources to community-based organizations at the front-lines of the coronavirus outbreak in San Diego.

Grant funding focuses on three critical areas: food security, rental and utility assistance, and income replacement or gap funding. Also no-interest loans for nonprofit organizations to provide business and community service continuity.

Jewish Community Foundation San Diego: With guidance from state and local officials and local community members, the Jewish Community Foundation has established funds to address the multi-faceted needs resulting from the COVID-19 crisis. Focusing on helping vulnerable local populations with food insecurity, rental assistance, and the needs of home-bound seniors.
